Welcome
Welcome to the Sentinel Video System V3 — the most feature-complete live streaming solution on the market today for motorsports.
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to get your system up and running, from hardware installation to advanced streaming configuration.
Hardware
Inventory
Your Sentinel V3 kit includes the following components:
Hard Case Contents
- Sentinel Video system (brain unit)
- 2x 5G antennas
- 3x Global Shutter cameras
- 2x WiFi/Bluetooth antennas
- DTM power cable with pigtails
- Microphone (TRRS)
- 4x SIM cards (3 US Mobile, 1 Verizon)
- Green antenna tool
- Vinyl stickers
Cardboard Box Contents
- 3x USB-C locking cables
- Sentinel mounting plate with voltage stabilizer
- M5 screws and hex nuts
- 2x antenna extension wire bundles
- 7x roll bar saddle mounts
- 2x small arm mounts
- 5x medium arms with locking connectors
- 5x ¼"x20 1" balls
- 2x antenna plates
Installation
Sentinel Video Unit Setup
- Attach the unit to the base plate using M5 screws and hex nuts
- Connect the DTM-4P connector to a 12V 5A independent circuit
- Install WiFi antennas to the labeled ports
- Attach small arms to the baseplate ball connectors
- Secure saddle mounts to your chosen roll-bar location
Important Considerations
- Avoid direct water exposure during rain races
- Use port covers for unused camera connections
- Position unit away from high-velocity water flow
Antenna Placement
The system uses 5G antennas mounted on metal plates to provide ground plane stability. Optimal locations offer clear "sky visibility."
Material Considerations
- Radio-transparent: Glass, fiberglass, and Lexan allow signal to pass through
- Signal loss: Carbon fiber and metal block or degrade signal
Extension Wire Color Codes
- RED — LMH (Low/Mid/High frequency)
- BLACK — MH (Mid/High frequency)
- BLUE — GNSS (GPS)
Camera Setup
Your three Global Shutter cameras provide incredible picture quality and fidelity even in high vibration environments.
- Standard ¼"x20 tripod mounts accommodate various orientations
- USB-C connectors feature locking thumb screws
- Use protective cable covers when not in use
- Image flipping is available via software configuration
CAN Bus Wiring
The system includes standard AIM CAN decode supporting the following data channels:
- Oil pressure
- Oil temperature
- Water temperature
- Fuel level
- Throttle position
- Brake position
- RPM
Connection Wiring
Use the DTM connector with the following wire colors:
| Wire Color | Connection |
|---|---|
| White | CAN-High |
| Green | CAN-Low |
SD Card Recording
The SD card records higher-quality footage independent of the broadcast stream.
Requirements
- High-endurance SD card with V30+ speed rating
- Must maintain 25% free space (auto-deletion below threshold)
Recording Specifications
- Format: H.265 in MPEG-TS container
- Composited stream: 10Mb/s
- Individual cameras: 5Mb/s each
- Supports both composited and individual camera recording
Tip
Download VLC Player for best playback compatibility with recorded files.
Data Service
Sentinel V3 operates on 5G cellular networks. Your kit includes four inactive SIM cards:
- US Mobile cards (3x) — Flexible carrier selection via data pools
- Verizon card (1x) — For existing plan holders
Critical Requirement
Sentinel is NOT compatible with 'Unlimited' lines from US Mobile. You must activate through data pools. We recommend a small plan with 50GB auto top-ups.
US Mobile Network Options
- Warp — Verizon backbone
- Lightspeed — T-Mobile backbone
- Darkstar — AT&T backbone
SIM Installation
Insert full-size SIM cards only, with contacts facing down. Push until you hear a click.
Getting Started
Initial Power Up
Upon first power, the display shows "Sentinel Watchdog Not Running" with a magenta dot — this is normal startup behavior.
The system displays statistics accessible via the front panel button cycling. Record your serial number (format: PROD-3XXX) for support reference.
Status Lights
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red | Broadcasting active |
| Green | Recording to SD card |
| Blue | GPS software thread running |
| Magenta | System power detected |
| Cyan | Cloud configuration thread running |
Default state: The system doesn't broadcast or record until configured.
Management Apps
Control your Sentinel system via iOS or Android applications:
- iOS App Store — Sentinel Video System Config
- Google Play — Sentinel Video System Config
Configuration
Initial Setup
The app provides an interview-style configuration covering:
- Video settings
- Camera configuration
- Automatic start features
- Network connectivity
- Default broadcast settings
Raceday Setup
The Raceday Setup consolidates frequently-changed track settings and enables one-touch YouTube event creation.
By default, the system uses the Sentinel Video Network (SVN) with SRT and H.265 encoding for optimal quality.
YouTube Integration
- Your YouTube channel must be validated before streaming
- Supports both event-specific streams and direct channel streaming
- Event creation available through direct API integration
- For channel-direct streaming, Ultra-Low-Latency setting is required
Custom Graphics Overlay
Use our web-based tool to create custom graphics overlays with data field placement:
https://svs-api.sentinel.racing/webAppLogin
Features
- Full-screen graphics placement
- Data overlay positioning
- Supports transparent PNG assets
- Data fields accessible via right-click canvas
- Export includes flattened PNG and JSON configuration
Tip
Special graphics files are required for CAN bus throttle and brake pressure visualization. Contact support for the supplementary asset files.
Troubleshooting
The front panel LCD and app control page display comprehensive system information including:
- ISP connection status
